Green dress details

More bridesmaid dress photos. (If you’re just tuning in, here’s some background on this dress.)

I’m kind of sad that I don’t have the matching strappy heels with me–it would be so fun to show you the whole look. Alas, I’ll just have to post again post-wedding (if you can bear to see it again), when there are better photos.

These photos were snapped at 7:30 AM–not the best lighting to show off the color .

I never know what to do with my hands in these photos. I am so not a natural model.

But moving on to the nitty-gritty construction details:

  1. I discovered very late in the game (i.e. when I had the fabric laid out on the table for cutting) that there was staining all down one selvedge edge of the cotton lawn–looked like something had gone wrong in the factory dyeing. Apparently this otherwise high-quality stuff was $2/yd. for a reason. Anyway, this cut down on the usable yardage, so I had to scramble to…
  2. Cut the interlining out of the lighter green silk georgette. I’m glad it happened this way–even though the georgette was CRAZY to work with (much slip-sliding around)–because having the silk layer gives this a lovely feel when wearing.
  3. I made a small bust adjustment by folding up the front bodice 1.5″ (as well as the bodice lining pieces). However, the back outer bodice piece was curved in such a way that I couldn’t just fold up 1.5″–instead I just trimmed that much off the bottom and gathered to make it fit the back midriff piece.
  4. Also to accommodate my small bust, I angled the center front bodice seam inward. The neckline gaped quite a bit before I did this. This also made the bottom of the V-neck come up just a bit higher, which I’m happy with.
  5. I swung out the skirt side seams to make it A-line (seemed better suited to the lightweight fabric).

So what do you think? Am I going to embarrass myself wearing this homemade frock?
